The FMD outbreak has affected national beef consumption in general, where there has been a decline in production at slaughterhouses (RPH) in big cities in Indonesia by more than 40%. Not only that, the increase in national poultry food prices also depreciated the Company's profits. This has an impact on the decline in company profits in general compared to the previous year in the same period. However, this condition is predicted not to last long in line with the government's cattle vaccination program and efforts to stabilize national livestock food prices.
Chief Executive Officer of PT Widodo Makmur Perkasa Tbk, Tumiyana explained that the first half of 2022 was a challenging year for the livestock industry in general, especially the increase in the Company's operational costs. The PMK outbreak has prompted the Company to implement biosecurity as a mandatory company protocol to prevent contamination from the outside environment. In addition, the increase in the price of poultry feed also increased the Company's operational costs in general.
“The company sees the current conditions as an opportunity going forward. The current decline in beef consumption due to the PMK outbreak will lead to reduced beef stocks in the community in the next few months, so that beef sales are predicted to rebound again, "explained Tumiyana.
Tumiyana also added that the Company's poultry business line will continue to have good opportunities in the future in line with the increase in the Company's productivity, especially strengthening the downstream poultry industry through increasing the number of production capacity in Slaughterhouses (RPH). In the first half of 2022, the cattle business line contributed 21% of the Company's revenue, 59% poultry, 14% meat processing, 4% agricultural commodities, and 2% energy.
To encourage business growth, the Company has developed renewable energy through the development of solar panel technology, in line with the Company's target to increase cost efficiency and become the leading environmentally friendly and sustainable consumer goods and agriculture company in Indonesia.
